Netflix has finally brought variable playback speed feature to its Android app. This was a much sought after feature for users who wanted to consume more content in lesser time. The feature has been present in other podcast and video players like YouTube, etc. and Netflix has now joined that list.

The feature is currently only available for the Android app with version 7.31.0. However, the feature is not there for everyone as we were only able to see it in one of our phones. We believe Netflix is testing this feature with users randomly through a server-side switch and will hopefully roll it out to everyone soon.

If it is enabled, users will see an option called “Speed (1X)” next to “Audio & Subtitles” in their video player. On clicking it, a menu will pop up with the options for 0.5x, 0.75x, 1x, 1.25x and 1.5x. We cannot find the option for 2x though like what YouTube has but it may come in the future. It is also possible that Netflix could be planning on bringing this feature to Android TV, iOS, web, or other platforms in the future.
